The Probinsyana Diaries

One of our patients, Female in her 50s, had fallen from the bed at 0200 the night prior. They found her on the floor naked without any clothes on. She has no recollection of what happened and had 2 abrasions/lacerations on her chin. Her blood pressure dropped. Her sugar was normal and aside from all these, she was cold to touch and cyanotic. They covered her with warm blankets. All these happened the night prior as per handover report.
During one of my rounds, I assessed her and noticed her right arm was weak and she can hardly move them. Her pupils are equal round and reactive to light but were 4-5mm dilated. No facial droop but she appeared very weak. I immediately informed my preceptor that day, J.C. and she also informed the Dr. F. who came and see the patient who was ordered to have a CT Angiogram immediately and meds were held (apixaban, metoprolol and the rest) She was in no good shape to take the meds anyway. We were ruling out a hemorrhagic stroke. Lasix 20mg was ordered but we checked her blood pressure and it was 80/40 so we didn't give it to her. 500Ml of NS bolus was administered after establishing an IV line on her left thumb after nth tries. I came with her in the CT lab where an angiogram cant be done because they need a G20 or a G22 angio compatible needle. We tried but to no avail. A Brain CT without contrast was done where a new left occipital lobe was seen. No wonder she had new right side weakness. However when she came back to the room her BP was 70/30. New IV lines established after how many tries while a transfer to MS-ICU was being ordered by the physician.
It was one of the most nerve-wracking experience in my life. I feel like I could have done more. I could have advocated more for the patient. I wrote this entry because I want to be reminded that there is always something you can do as an extra-effort. I don't know if anyone experience this (Nurse-guilt). You have done everything you can for the patient but you feel like there should've been more. And I am reminded of why we need to study and advocate for continuous learning for ourselves.
I feel like I needed to let this out my chest or else I will be eaten by this overwhelming feeling. Thank you for reading even though I know this has nothing to do with you and that you too are going through something. This too shall pass. Let's all move on and move forward.

Xoxo,

Nina

 Dear Diary,

It's been a year since I last wrote an entry. I just want to write something today at 2:40 am. I feel so down, sad, inadequate-all the unwanted emotions and feelings you can imagine. I know, I'm so blessed to have my daughter and I have a job etc. but postpartum depression is REAL. I am easily disappointed at myself for a lot of things even though I am doing my best to be the best mom for my daughter. I am disappointed for losing myself in the process-gaining weight, forgetting my life's purpose, missing out on a lot of things, feeling ugly and failing to take care of myself. I just want my old self back. It's like I feel guilty for feeling this way because as a mom you must think less of yourself and more of your child.

Anyways, I just want to vent out my feelings and there's no other way I can express myself than through my blog. This post is so random. I just figured, I have a friend in you. hehe I actually have friends but I just don't want to bother them with petty stuff.

I also want someone whom I can talk to with ease. I want someone who can handle intelligent conversations, deep & meaningful. Not shallow and nonsensical topics. God help me. This is just so selfish,I know.

GTG.

Love,

Nina the new momma (lol.gotta emphasize this phase of my life huhu)

Dear Diary,

Social media nowadays are basically part of our lives if not it becomes our life. For millenials like me we communicate with our friends and loved ones through the internet and of course social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

We keep ourselves updated with the latest news and trend neither from television nor radio but mainly from our social media accounts. That's why we try to carefully select people / groups to follow because we're going to constantly expose ourselves  with the kind of information they post. We're more likely to browse and visit their feeds. We are influenced by whomever we follow/subscribe to online. Likewise, our followers also get to see a part of who we are through our posts. We too can influence, affect and inspire others through our posts.

For instance, on Instagram, one of the most popular photo sharing and social network platform nowadays people-from celebrity to ordinary people use it to post photos of themselves  and recent happenings.

As an Instagram user, I've compiled some useful TIPS and TRICKS to make your Instagram Feed better. Well, mine needs more work before it becomes #feedgoals but hopefully, I'll soon get there. I'll try to be consistent next time.

Anyways, here they are:

1. USE GOOD LIGHTING

-I'm not rich so I don't have those expensive tools :p I believe that with a good weather and a little sunlight will make your photo so much better.

2. USE A 'VERY' GOOD CAMERA

-I'm not called 'POBRENG PROBINSYANA' for nothing. I always try to look for cheaper and better alternatives. However, if you want to achieve the Instagram #FeedGoals you better need to step up your game. Try to look for a good camera maybe a smartphone with large megapixels. You don't need to buy expensive DSLRs for that. There are tons of apps also to make your photos look good as well such as Snapseed, VSCO and the likes.

3. STICK TO A THEME

-This will make your feeds more 'put-together' and organized. For instance, I used a black and white theme for my feed. You can have pastel, bright, maroon  or any type of color combination for your #FeedGoals.

4. NATURE LOOKS GOOD ON YOUR FEED

-Once in a while, post photos of NATURE-the beach, a sunset/sunrise, trees, parks. It doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be the latest trip you had. Make sure you tuck in some natural/scenic photos on your gallery. They come in handy when your feed needs 'life'. It will refresh your page and somehow revives it.

5. Flat Lays are the Bomb

-Honestly, I don't have the innate talent for flat-lays, I think you need to develop this by browsing through your favorite fashion blogger's feed or of course through apps like Pinterest. Never limit yourself and always be creative. Flat-lays, makes your feed look very posh and sophisticated.

If you're up for some serious Instagram #FeedGoals the New OPPO F1s provides you with everything that you'll ever need to achieve that.
Why? Aside from OPPO F1s' features I've included above, OPPO F1s prides itself as one of the cheap smartphone with unbelievable features. Get it at Lazada. Click here.

Millenials, let's all be responsible with what we post online. Let's continue to inspire and influence others with encouraging and uplifting posts.

Dear Diary,

How have you been?

Recently, the past few days have been so hectic & rough but extremely fulfilling with my job as a nurse. I admit, in some days, I don't feel like going to work and my bed seems to be the happiest place on earth. However, whenever I'm reminded of the opportunity to take care of the sick and ill, I suddenly feel the surge of energy like I'm suddenly wearing the long red cape minus the red brief.lol. As a modern day working Filipina, I brave the urban life each day with enthusiasm and purpose  knowing that I get the chance to  SAVE a LIFE each day as a NURSE.

I've been working as a nurse for the past 5 years and I've seen it ALL. When I say ALL, I mean ALL. Working in public health for 2 years I could say that those years were one of my most memorable events as a nurse. I've been assigned to mountainous, far-flung and impoverished area in my community. But after the long and bumpy ride on the 'habal-habal' (a motorcycle used as transportation for people living in the mountains) and teaching mothers about health , I feel that I accomplished something very important-IMPART KNOWLEDGE. Yeah, #IAmUrbanBrave.

Whenever I travel, I make sure I have these basic essentials : a sturdy and spacious back-pack where I put my notebooks/laptops and cellphone for that well-prepared slide-show health presentation, a huge tumbler/water container to keep me hydrated and of course a coffee and tea travel press to keep me up and awake:)

Urbanize Scout Tote Bag, Espro Coffee Travel Press, Hydrapak
Currently, I'm working as a STAFF NURSE in a public hospital. The stress is sky-high but the rewards are overwhelming. I'm not talking about tangible and material rewards, I'm referring to the self-fulfillment you get whenever a mother and baby survives after a risky pregnancy, a Cancer-stricken patient felt happy and contented during the remaining days of her life and a most of all receiving a simple 'thank-you' and a smile from that grumpy old patient.

My table's so messy because I was so busy but I still managed to SMILE.

As a staff nurse, you need to be strong physically, emotionally and mentally. That's why you also need to take care of yourself because these means you can take care of others more. You need to carry essential and useful items with you every time you go on duty and to make you equipped and ready for any emergency/stressful situation. For me, these are the things I carry: A stylish backpack, a hair-tie, a coffee mug especially during night-shifts.

Fjallraven's Kanken bags, Popband Bubble Gum, Limited Edition Angel & Devil tumbler

These are my TOP 5 Urbanize must-have items. What's yours?

Visit their facebook page here for URBANIZE PH.

Being a Nurse in the Philippines is no joke. You should have the conviction to stick to your principles and the heart to serve. The current situation in the Philippines has caused Filipino nurses to go abroad to look for greener pasture. So I should say, all those who stayed deserves a pat on the back for managing to provide selfless service albeit the meager monetary compensation. Kudos everyone, we are all #Urbanbrave.

Ever since College, I've already decided to stay and serve my fellowmen even this means I would sacrifice a lot of things because #Iamurbanbrave. I may opt not to buy expensive stuff but being able to acquire a few of these items is definitely a must for any nurse like me. Because we all deserve to treat ourselves once in a while, right?

Love,

Dear Diary,

Recently, I got hooked watching videos on Youtube. They're no ordinary videos since they are like reality tv since they feature videos made by 'real' people. These videos are called VLOGS. According to google.com,  a vlog is defined as a blog in which the postings are primarily in video form.

They're a breath of fresh air from the usual soap operas you watch on t.v. and from typical music videos you usually watch on youtube.

I appreciate the fact that these people can finally share they're opinion, talent, and views without being connected to a network and without being hired by them. This means these videos are raw, REAL and unaffected by whatever restrictions implemented by ABS-CBN or GMA or other network giants in the country. Meaning, they're free to do WHATEVER they want to say & do and for me it's MORE entertaining:)

When you watch vlogs, it seems like a person is inviting you to be a part of his/her life and journey. As I've said, it's like you're watching a reality tv show. It can be a travel vlog, events vlog, interview, the list goes on.

I've listed down my TOP 5 FAVORITE FILIPINO YOUTUBE VLOGGERS, namely:

TOP 5 HALEY DASOVICH

Haley Dasovich is the sister of Wil Dasovich, also a youtuber who's known for his recent stint in PBB. Haley's channel (click here for the link) contains a variety of travel & personal vlogs. I was amazed at how she managed to quit her job in the States to pursue vlogging in the Philippines. She's very smart, opinionated and stylish too :)

TOP 4 JANINA VELA

She's a superstar in her own right. This 17 year old is bursting with positive vibes and aura. Her innocence and blissful spirit radiates on her youtube vlogs (click here for the link). She shares make-up tutorials and also vlogs about her day-to-day experiences. Did I mention that she's a youtube star? With over 200,000 youtube subscribers this girl is a force to reckon with. Her fans call themselves VELA-FAM and they really support her all the way. Recenty, she is going to do a collaboration with Miss Lea Salonga in a Disney Concert.

TOP 3 CORALEEN WADDELL

Coraleen Waddell is my favorite female youtuber not because she's pretty and all but because she uses her voice to influence positive vibes to the people around her. This former PBB housemate is also a friend of Wil Dasovich even prior to their PBB stint. He was the one who influenced her to try out vlogging (click here for the link). At first her channel was quite awkward and her editing skills were mediocre compared to others who already established themselves in Youtube. Months later, her content and editing skills improved and her number of subscribers grew fast with over a 100,000. Since she was part of the PBB dream team, she rarely uploads new videos but when she does you're sure to have some great vlogs from her.

TOP 2 DANIEL MARSH

Daniel March is a Filipino-Irish Vlogger who happens to speak Cebuano. His youtube vlogs are well thought of and his editing skills are excellent. I think he is an underrated vlogger and he deserves to have more than a 100,000 subscribers (click here for the link).

TOP 1- WIL DASOVICH

He is my TOP 1 Youtube Vlogger because he has over 400,000 subscribers. Hehe . Kidding aside, Wil's vlog is all about having FUN. I think the reason behind the success of his vlogs is his innate nature and personality. Although he is raised in the US, his truly Filipino character-humble, funny, family-oriented ; is very evident in his vlogs. He loves his family so much and I personally think these simple reasons separate him from the rest. I don't if he has been vlogging longer than others but his youtube content are well-edited, opinionated, and of course funny. I think his edge among other is his good sense of humor.

So these are my My Top Five Favorite Filipino Youtube Vloggers :) I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I do.

Do you also have favorite Filipino Youtube Vloggers who's not in the list? Make sure to leave some comments below.
